Armenia has exported 7,500 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables over
the first two months of this year – three times more than the country
exported for the same period a year earlier, Robert Makaryan, deputy
agriculture minister, told journalists on Wednesday.

Answering ARKA News Agency’s question, he said that Russia, Georgia,
Iraq and the United Arab Emirates are the biggest importers of Armenian
fresh fruits and vegetables.

The deputy minister said that Armenia’s fresh fruit and vegetable
exports totalled 64,500 tons in 2013 – two times more than in 2012.

In his words, the ministry is now gathering information about the
volumes of fresh vegetables and fruits the country’s canneries want
to purchase this year. He said final figures will be known on March 20.

According to the Armenian agriculture ministry, apricot exports showed
the highest growth among all varieties of fresh fruits (23,000 tons
in 2013 against 12,000 in 2012). Armenia also exported 6,800 tons of
grapes, 980 tons of peaches, 633 tons of apples, 610 tons of berries
and 27,000 tons of vegetables, of which 20,500 tons were potatoes.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
