Insurance companies avoid performing duties properly – NGO rep

Insurance companies deny public transport and taxis liability
insurance policies, Chairman of the Informed and Protected Consumer
NGO Babken Pipoyan told Tert.am.

“Some companies refused to insure such cars, but began issuing 3-month
insurance policies. However, we all know well it is much costlier than
a one-year insurance policy,” he said.

The reason is that the cars are “a high risk” because they are
operated throughout the day.

“This is a way of extorting more money practiced by insurance
companies. Law envisages fines for failing to be insured, while
government-licensed insurance companies are not properly performing
their duties,” Pipoyan said.

He pointed out the need for supervisory bodies.
