Though the Armenian Dram experienced certain devaluation recently,
everything possible was done to save the national currency, says a
senior banking official.
Speaking to reporters after the Thursday cabinet meeting, President of
the Union of Banks Samvel Tchzmachyan dispelled the concerns that the
Armenian currency may be withdrawn from circulation in the near future.
Asked about the plans for launching a single currency in the common
Eurasian area and its possible impact on Armenia’s economy, Mr
Tchzmachyan brought the example of the European Union. “I am inclined
to think that it will have a positive impact, but I don’t find it is
something to be discussed in the near future. Do you think the Euro
has left a positive impact on the European states …?” he replied.
