INDIA IS INTERESTED IN ARMENIA’S “OPEN SKY” POLICY

YEREVAN, JANUARY 24, ARMENPRESS. “Economic relations andm trade
turnover are the weakest links in cooperation between Armenia and
India. Trade turnover amounts to 75-80 million dollars annually,
and taking into consideration India’s potential, it is a very small
index”. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to
the Republic of Armenia Suresh Babu expressed such a viewpoint at a
conversation with the journalists on January 24.
“Armenpress” reports that the Ambassador conditions low level of
trade turnover on several factors: “I mean firstly the absence of
direct communication. Several years ago we had a direct flight,
but at present there are no flights. This is, of course, one of the
obstacles, but the issue is under discussion and we are now trying
to find ways to re-open direct flights. At this moment we study what
provisions are included in “open sky” policy stated by the Government.
We hope that if there is no obstacle regarding communication, bilateral
trade volumes will increase,” the Ambassador said.
The second factor is that scarcity of information about the countries
is noticeable. According to the Ambassador, this year the sides will
try supply the gap and trade delegations from different cities of
India will visit Armenia.
