A man who was on the police wanted list for a brutal murder has been
found 25 years after committing the crime.
On June 22 1969, Artur Antonyan (45), a resident of the Gugark village,
axed the 15-year-old Vahagn Harutyunyan to death together with a
group of accomplices.
A criminal case was launched, and Antonyan was later included on the
wanted list, according to a press release by the Armenian Police.
Though he wasn’t found for quite a long time, the police wouldn’t
stop the searches.
Policemen in the third largest city of Vanadzor recently received a
report that the man is hiding in Russia’s Samara region. He was said
to have changed all his passport data.
They immediately asked the Samara police to launch investigative
operations to find Antonyan.
A photo and fingerprint cards were later sent for identification. The
probe revealed Antonyan was the suspected man hiding behind the name
Sasha Soghomonyan. He is going to be flown to Armenia.
