ADIBEKIAN: ENTRY INTO CUSTOMS UNION WILL IMPROVE SITUATION IN ARMENIA

The entry into the Customs Union and the review of customs duties
will result in a fall of prices of goods in Armenia, sociologist
Aharon Adibekian said at a meeting with journalists today.

In his words, after the entry into the Customs Union, the situation
in Armenia will improve and the customs duties decline. Yet success
can be achieved if the Russian side builds a number of large plants
in Armenia, Adibekian said.

“If the Customs Union becomes the future format of our vital activity,
it is obvious that our incomes will rise,” the sociologist noted,
adding that it does not mean that Armenia should not continue
cooperation with the European Union.

“We should improve the quality of education as our educational system
is 50-60 years behind the world’s modern educational systems. We should
improve our educational system because we have no other resources,
except intellectual resource. Gold and silver reserves will run out
in 50 years, iron reserves in 100 years so we should develop our
intellectual potential, like the Japanese,” the sociologist said,
stressing the need to introduce advanced technology in Armenia’s
education.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
