SYDNEY: On November 24th, over 400 guests were at Galstaun College’s
Nalbandian Hall to witness a special program honouring the Armenian
Revolutionary Federation’s 123rd Anniversary, dedicated to the memory
of the organisation’s co-founder Simon Zavarian in what marks the
100th year since his passing.

The program, which featured members of the Armenian Youth Federation
of Australia (Seniors and Juniors), students from Galstaun College,
and community leaders, took guests on a detailed journey through the
life of Zavarian, who helped found the ARF along with Kristapor
Mikaelian and Stepan Zorian in 1890 at age 24.

Garo Keshishian delivered the keynote address on behalf of ARF
Australia’s Tro Gomide, where he noted the achievements of Zavarian
and read testimonies from his colleagues highlighting his exemplary
character. Keshishian, and Vache Kahramanian of the Armenian National
Committee of Australia, were able to show guests how Zavarian’s legacy
is carried out by his descendants in Australia today.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
