RUSSIA ENDS EXPORT TAX ON DIAMOND SUPPLIES TO ARMENIA

(IDEX Online News) – Russia and Armenia have signed an agreement to
cancel duties on exports of diamonds to Armenia.

The deal was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenia’s
Serzh Sargsyan, and follows Armenia’s decision in September to join
the Moscow-led Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Western analysts say Russia is pressuring the former states of
the Soviet Union financially to prevent them integrating with the
European Union.

Current anti-government demonstrations in Ukraine follow the
government’s decision last week not to sign key agreements with the
European Union in favor of stronger economic ties with Russia.

Sargsyan said his country would take the necessary measures to join
the union as soon as possible.

Russia and Armenia also agreed on cheaper prices for natural gas and
oil products.

Russia’s Alrosa sold 40,233 carats of diamonds worth $4.85 million
to Armenia in the January-September period of this year.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
