ARMENIAN NA SPEAKER’S DECISION POLITICALLY MOTIVATED – HERITAGE PARTY

13:31 ~U 24.10.13

The Heritage party condemns the procedure of forming Armenian
parliamentary delegations to international parliamentary assemblies
approved by Armenian Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.

It is an infringement on the party’s rights, the party-issued
statement says.

According to the procedure approved on Wednesday, Heritage party
member Zaruhi Postanjyan (now head of the Heritage parliamentary
group) was removed from the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in defiance of the PACE
Rules of Procedure.

The documents effective as of October 23, 2013, not only violate
the Heritage group’s right to equal representation at Armenia’s
delegations, but also establish the practice of infringement on
political pluralism and persecution of an MP for his or her political
views.

The Armenian Parliament speaker’s decision is politically motivated,
aimed at putting an end to the Heritage party’s political activities
at PACE, says the statement.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
