ARMENIAN PRESIDENT AWARDS BEST IT STUDENTS

President Serzh Sargsyan honored Armenia’s best IT students and pupils
with special prizes on Wednesday.

Angela Aslanyan, an award winning student form Vanadzor’s Evrika
college, shared her feelings and impressions after ceremony.

Responding to Tert.am’s questions, the pupil said that the
award has inspired her with confidence, giving her chances for
self-accomplishment.

Synopsys Armenia CEO Hovik Musayelyan said the award event has a
special mission to discover the talented students and pupils of
Armenia.

“Our concern today is that the best student from schools specialized
in physical and mathematical disciplines – those who have won awards
at international competitions – wish to become economists, lawyers and
doctors, but logic is that they have to select specialties focused
on the natural disciplines. This is a bit strange to us given that
the IT sector has highest added values and ensures the maximum paces
of growth, especially in Armenia where we have a shortage of 2,000
specialists.”

Musaelyan said he has proposed the president that the best students
wishing to specialize in the IT sector be given privileges of
university admission.

“I also proposed that the academic hours of robot building and computer
sciences be mandatory along with chess, as our young students have
had notable achievements in this sector. The president said both
proposals are acceptable and will be discussed,” he said.
