Armenian Firefighters Under Azeri Fire In Border Village

ARMENIAN FIREFIGHTERS UNDER AZERI FIRE IN BORDER VILLAGE

NEWS | 23.07.13 | 12:43

Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situation (MES) has accused Azerbaijan
of obstructing the work of Armenian firefighters carrying out their
duties in a borderline village.

In a report today the MES said a group of firefighters responded to
an alert from the village of Dovegh, Tavush province, which is near
Armenia’s northeastern border with Azerbaijan, about a fire at a
local vineyard.

It said shooting from the Azerbaijani side in the direction of the
firefighters, however, resulted in disruptions of the activities.

Eventually, the fire occurring on a territory of four hectares was
localized and later died out damaging two hectares of the vineyard.

Cross-border shooting is not a rare occurrence in the Armenian villages
situated not far from the border with Azerbaijan. This is the second
time within the past week, however, that Azeri bullets disrupt major
civilian activities in the territory of Armenia.

On July 17, the Baghanis-Ijevan highway in the Tavush province had
to be temporarily closed and vehicles had to use an alternative road
following a ceasefire violation by Azerbaijani armed forces.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
