YEREVAN, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS: A part of the historical information
on the Gezi Park of Istanbul, where it was noted that an Armenian
cemetery was located on that territory, has been removed from the
German section of the Wikipedia Online Encyclopedia. As reported by
Armenpress, the Turkish users of the Wikipedia tried to prove that
the Armenian cemetery was not on the territory of the Gezi Park.

The Armenian cemetery St. Jacob of Istanbul functioned in 1551- 1939.

In the end of 1930s the Turkish authorities built the Gezi Park, the
Hilton and Hyatt Hotel, as well as the TRT Radio Company building on
the territory of the Armenian cemetery.

During the anti-governmental demonstrations held in Turkey the issue
of the destruction of the Armenian cemetery decade ago was also
raised. During the construction works held in Taksim 16tombstones of
the Armenian cemetery were found.
