Artak Zakaryan. "Russia Is An Ally For Armenia."

ARTAK ZAKARYAN. “RUSSIA IS AN ALLY FOR ARMENIA.”

July 8 2013

“Russia is an ally for Armenia and the word dangerous is completely
inappropriate here. Simply Russia should clearly assess and respect
the interests of Armenia, and Armenia should assess and respect
the interests of Russia. In terms of security, the interests of RF
and Armenia in the region in the future will be present for a long
time as common interests, because the matter is about provision of
security from both sides.’, – told the Chairman of Standing Committee
of NA Foreign Affairs Artak Zakaryan, in an interview with Aravot.am,
disagreeing with our observation that the facts of increasing in gas
prices, and then selling of one billion worth weapons to Azerbaijan
prove that the RF is becoming a dangerous ally for Armenia. Regarding
all other respects, Artak Zakaryan considers different approaches,
interpretations, and opinions normal. To our question as to in
your opinion, in the context of current development, has Armenia
calculated its own interest, our interlocutor said. “Yes, Armenia as an
independent state, is exclusively guided by its interests. At least
for the last 5-6 years, it is the most visible and obvious.” Our
interlocutor is concerned about the fact that Armenia’s ally RF
continues to intensively equipping Armenia and Azerbaijan in the
condition of non-regulation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Generally,
he is concerned about any equipping of Azerbaijan, despite the
sources of procuring weapons. Despite all this, according to him,
the Armenian-Russian military-technical cooperation is so deep and
correlated that in terms of maintenance of regional balance and
application of security system, there is no particular need for
deep concerns.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
