168: KARABAKH WAR VETERANS DISSATISFIED WITH LAW ON YERKRAPAH
09:55 ~U 20.06.13
Armenia’s Parliament has approved a bill on the status of Yerkrapah
(Homeland-Defender).
The aim was to assuage veterans’ discontent. However, some of the
veterans of the Karabakh war do not consider themselves Yerkrapah.
They call themselves freedom-fighters. The problem is that members of
the Yerkrapah union of volunteers are actually considered Yerkrapah
(Homeland-Defenders). Other veterans believe that the bill is an
attempt to make all the freedom-fighters Yerkrapah union members –
the bill only deals with Yerkrapah union.
Freedom-fighters demand a law on social protection of Karabakh war
veterans. Such a law would grant equal rights to freedom-fighters
and Yerkrapah.
