Veterans of the Nagorno-Karabakh liberation war have raised their
problems again, promising to keep fighting for their rights unless
they see a solution.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Ishkhan Sargasyan, the president of
the veterans union Shushi 92, said most heroes remain ignored today,
despite their glorious feats during the war,

“Many freedom fighters, even those who didn’t spare their life for
the country, cannot afford anything today,” he said, noting that the
respect for the war veterans is decreasing little by little now.

Referring to an earlier meeting with Minister of Defense Seyran
Ohanyan, the war veteran said he had promised to submit their demands
to the president. “As people who have seen a war I am hopeful they
must be able to understand us,” he said

Sargsyan added that the war heroes will not give up their struggle,
no matter whether few or any, “We are not going to step back. This
struggle; they are welcome to join,” he said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
