Taking into consideration the government’s intention to provide Syunik
province’s pastures to Iran for rent, Pre-parliament is planning to
visit Syunik and is currently making a ‘field investigation’ to get
familiarized with the situation.

Speaking to reporters today, organization’s member, film director
Tigran Khzmalyan said they are trying to undertake serious measures
not to allow it. “If this meanness and betrayal are not stopped the
riffraff who are trying to play with our safety and with the fate of
our country will get a serious confrontation in Syunik,” Khzmalyan
said, asked whether they will go to Syunik.

Khzmalyan agreed with the remark that Iran is friend country and that
the initiative coming from them may be useful as these pastures have
remained unused and in case of their usage jobs will be created. He
said Iran is Armenia’s strategic partner and it is necessary to be
very attentive not to cast shadow on Armenian-Iranian friendship.

Khzmalyan though said that we first of all should defend Armenia’s
interests which sometimes do not coincide with the ones of the closest
strategic ally.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
