RUZAN ARAKELIAN: ARFD’S PROCESSES ARE CONVINCING

Thursday,
April 25

“Our election campaign is proceeding quite successfully. Those voters
who supported us in the previous elections are also supporting us
now,” ARF- Dashnaktsutyun Party member, former parliamentary deputy
Ruzan Arakelian told reporters today, when discussing the pre-election
developments in the country.

She said that ARFD has held meetings with voters in Yerevan yards.

“For the second time, we have witnessed attempts to turn the mayoral
elections into elections of a person. People have incorrect perception
of this phenomenon: they go to the polls to vote for a particular
person. We must convince people that these are elections of political
forces,” she noted.

Speaking about peculiarities of the election program of ARFD, she
said:”ARFD proposes that a commission for controling the budget of
Yerevan should be set up at Yerevan Council of Elders. It is important
that the opposition head the commission”.

In her words, the second important issue is the consolidation of the
opposition political forces making part of the Council of Elders. She
stressed that an opposition member as a single candidate should be
elected as Yerevan mayor.

As regards the electorate of ARFD, R. Arakekian noted that some part
of the Intelligentsia trusts their party as a political force capable
of solving both foreign-policy and domestic problems. “It means that
the processes implemented by ARFD are convincing to the people,”
she stated.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
