April 11, 2013 – 15:12 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Nork publishing house has released the Armenian
translation of the “Stone Dreams” novel by Azerbaijani writer Akram
Aylisli, News.az reports.

The novel sparked sharp public reaction after it was published in
the December edition of the Russian ‘Druzhba narodov’ magazine.

The writer faced sharp criticism, followed by protest actions outside
his house.

Aylisli’s depiction of Armenian massacres in Baku and the negative
portrayal of the killings committed by Azeri refugees from Armenia
particularly sparked criticism against the author.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
