Politicians, public and cultural figures keep visiting the
hunger-striking Heritage party’s leader who was the main opposition
candidate in the February 18 presidential election.

Raffi Hovhannisian, who considers himself a de-facto winner in the
polls, declared the hunger-strike on Sunday evening after a rally at
Yerevan’s Liberty Square.

Margarit Yesayan of the ruling Republican Party faction, who met the
senior oppositionist today, said in a conversation with Tert.am that
she had come there to express her support to the protesting former
candidate as a woman, freend and as a parliament member.

The leader of the People’s Party of Armenia, Stepan Demirchyan,
was at Liberty Square minutes ago, but he refrained from telling
journalists what he had recommended the politician.

Lawmakers of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Vardan Oskanian and Gurgen
Arsenyan, had earlier visited the former candidate.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
