POLICE PREVENT PROTEST ACTION OUTSIDE CC – VIDEO
12:49 PM | MARCH 11, 2013 | POLITICS
Armenia’s Constitutional Court today started hearing of appeals of
presidential candidates Raffi Hovanisian and Andrias Ghukasian,
who demand that the Court annul the results of the February 18
presidential election.
In the meantime, about 20 young people gathered outside the CC
building demanding to ‘validate the victory of people in the February
ballot.’ However, the action was inhibited by the police who said
the group was interfering with the work of the Court.
The demonstrators latter regrouped at the corner, trying to make their
voice audible. They urge the Constitutional Court to hand down fair
ruling at least once.
The country’s highest judicial body continues the study of the
appeals. The Central Election Commission acts as a respondent in the
suit, with the Prosecutor’s Office and Police as co-respondents. Serzh
Sargsyan, who is a third party in the suit, has authorized Minister
of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan and Republican lawmaker David Haurutyunyan
to represent his interests in the Constitutional Court.
Raffi Hovanisian urges the Central Election Commission, the Police
and the General Prosecutor’s Office to admit that he was the rightful
winner in last month’s presidential.
