Olympic champion on hunger strike as IOC plans to strike off wrestling

A two-time Olympic wrestling champion Armen Nazarian has declared
himself on hunger strike in protest against the International Olympic
Committee’s plans to remove wrestling from the Olympic sports’ list.
The athlete vowed to take nothing except syrup until the European
wrestling championships scheduled to begin in Tbilisi, Georgia, on
March 22.

He won the Olympic gold for Armenia in 1996 and for Bulgaria in 2000.

Earlier the IOC recommended excluding wrestling from the program of
the 2020 Summer Olympics.
