Yesterday, one of the protesters extended the middle finger in the sign
of protest to Yerevan State University, and her gesture was actively
discussed on the web. Many insulted her, while today someone already
hit the striking students.
As civil activist Ani Kaghinyan told Lragir.am, several dozens of
young men, probably members of the students’ council of YSU, in the
silent presence of police officers, provoked a conflict and beat two
young protesters.
Ani Kaghinyan said that the conflict continued in front of State
University of Economics, where several dozens of young men hit other
protesters and only then police officers started calming everyone
down. “The doors of YSU History faculty were closed, while 50-80 young
men gathered in front of the Agricultural University shouting to us
“Leave Turks!” They were throwing chewing gums and cigarettes on us,
and when we asked the police officers why they were not intervening,
they responded that they were throwing back what we were throwing on
them”, says Kaghinyan.
Students say the conflict is now continuing in front of Engineering
university. They are sure these actions are planned and aimed at
using violence against protesters with the help of police officers.
