ARMENIAN LEADER SLAMS AZERBAIJAN AT CSTO SUMMIT
KARABAKH | 20.12.12 | 10:36
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan accused Azerbaijan of undermining
regional security by what he described as a ‘destructive approach’
to the Karabakh settlement as he addressed a high-level gathering in
Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday.
Sargsyan was among the leaders of six former Soviet nations visiting
the Russian capital for a summit of the Collective Security Treaty
Organization (CSTO).
“The Azerbaijani propaganda is raising a generation in an atmosphere
of xenophobia and intolerance. And the deification of the cowardly
axe-murderer [of an Armenian officer] extradited from Hungary is
confirmation of my words… As a matter of fact, killing an Armenian
is no longer a crime in Azerbaijan,” said Sargsyan, according to his
press office, referring to the case of Ramil Safarov, who had been
serving a life sentence in a Budapest jail for a brutal decapitation
of a sleeping Armenian at a NATO-sponsored language course in 2004
before being handed over and controversially pardoned in Azerbaijan
on August 31.
