YEREVAN. – A total of 41,750,000 Russian rubles (approx. $1,347,390)
plus around 31 million Armenian drams (approx. $76,657) worth of
food were donated along the lines of the “Help Your Brother” civic
initiative, which provides assistance to the Syrian Armenian community,
Hamazkayin (Nationwide) Armenian Educational and Cultural Foundation
Chairwoman Lilit Galstyan said during a press conference on Wednesday.
Also, New Year celebrations will be organized for and presents will
be given to the Syrian Armenian children.
In his turn, ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party Bureau member, MP Vahan
Hovhannisyan noted that the “Help Your Brother” initiative is
continuing its activities. He informed that sending humanitarian relief
from Armenia to Aleppo by planes was causing problems, in terms of
transferring it to the Armenian-populated regions, because the roads
are closed. Now, they are focusing on distributing money to the
Armenians on the spot, but relief could once again be sent by planes.
The speakers added that what’s important for the Syrian Armenians
today is that their housing and job issues are resolved.
