Georgia’s former Prime Minister and Interior Minister Vano
Merabishvili, who is currently secretary general of the United
National Movement, has been invited to the Prosecutor’s general office
for interrogation over usage of false passport, Russian Vzglyad
reports.

Georgia’s Interior Ministry’s representative Nino Giorgobiani said
Merabishvili was in Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili’s
delegation heading to Yereva. On the Georgian-Armenian border he
presented a passport with his photo but with a Levan Maysuradze name
in it.

The border guard tried to clarify the situation after which
Merabishvili presented another passport, already with his name. He was
allowed to cross the border for not failing the visit. An examination
has launched over the fact on an attempt to cross the border illegally

In response the ex-PM said the accusations against him are `absurd’
and the new authorities `want to frighten and arrest all.’

He claimed there was no false passport.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
