Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said in Beirut
today that “we are deeply concerned about the situation in Syria and
the fate of our compatriots living there”.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan who pays an official visit to Beirut
said this during his joint press conference with Lebanese President
Michel Suleiman.

“Syrian people received hundreds of thousands of Armenians with open
arms in the toughest times for us and Syria’s pain is our pain.

Armenia has always supported stopping of bloodshed. We are against
use of force and violence – and not only in Syria. It’s impossible
to come to a permanent solution without extensive political dialogue
taking into account the interests of all the Syrians. Armenia hails
the mission of Joint Arab League-United Nations Special Representative
for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi toward stabilizing the political situation
in Syria and peace-building.

We are hopeful that there will be peace in Syria as a result of the
above mentioned initiatives and it will be possible to implement all
the necessary democratic reforms in the nearest future which will
reflect the political will and aspirations of all the layers of the
Syrian people”, said the Armenian President.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
