Seda Stepanyan’s radio play called “And the sun went on shining
cynically” is among the best seven in the 23rd International Radio
Playwriting Competition of BBC.

BBC World Service received more than 100 scripts this year from all
over the world. There are two categories: scripts in English as second
language and scripts in English as first language. The winners in two
categories will leave for the United Kingdom to accept the awards. The
winner plays will be transmitted by BBC World Service.

Seda Stepanyan’s script is based on a true story. It is about
Stephanie, who is devastated when the love of her life disappears. Her
desperate hunt to find him takes her straight into the heart of the
raging Karabakh war.

The final results will be known by the end of the year.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
