Italy beats Armenia 3-1 in World Cup 2014 qualifier
(AGI) Yerevan, Oct. 12- Italy beat Armenia 3-1 in Yerevan on Friday
thanks to goals by Pirlo, De Rossi and Osvaldo. Though the World Cup
Qualifier ended with Italy firmly in the lead, the team had to
struggle to gain and keep the advantage. Coach Prandelli opted for a
4-3-1-2 formation for the match. Pirlo’s penalty kick goal was
neutralized shortly after by Mkhitaryan’s equalizer and Buffon’s
goalkeeping was decisive in keeping the score tied before the winning
headers by De Rossi and Osvaldo.
The two Roma players had been left on the bench by coach Zeman in the
Serie A club’s match against Atalanta, but turned things around for
the national team. With the important victory against Armenia under
its belt, Italy reached 7 points in the World Cup build-up. . .
