In its article entitled “Armenia opens historic ‘Hrazdan’ Stadium
for Italy,” the Italian La Stampa website pointed to the stadium’s
historical significance.

“Armenia opens yet again the historic ‘Hrazdan’ Stadium [this
time] for Italy. Last time a match was played at the ‘Victorious’
stadium was in 2008, when Armenia’s national team hosted Turkey’s
squad. The presidents of the two countries-Serzh Sargsyan and Abdullah
Gul-likewise were on hand at the match,” La Stampa writes in the
lead-up to the game between Armenia and Italy.

Also, the Italian website informed its readers about the success
of Armenia’s “Ararat” football club and the stadium’s record number
of fans.

To note, the 2014 World Cup Brazil’s qualifying Group B match between
Armenia and Italy will kick off at Armenian capital city Yerevan’s
Hrazdan Stadium on Friday at 9pm.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
