The Kremlin has reportedly refused to comment on the reasons behind
the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s cancelled visit to Armenia.

The paper yesterday contacted the spokesperson of the Russian leader
reminding him of an earlier statement made by Kostantin Zatulin, the
director of the CIS Institute, who had announced that Putin is due to
Yerevan in September.

But the spokesperson reportedly declined to give any comment. `We
can’t tell you anything as to why the visit didn’t take place,’ he was
quoted as saying.

The paper says that the plans for Putin’s visit have been discussed
since late May, with different timeframes being announced. Zatulin was
later reported as saying that certain arrangement swere being made for
the state visit, comments the paper.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
