A soldier was killed and several others were wounded in a clash with
a group of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists in the Kato
Mountains of ??rnak province, Today’s Zaman reported.

Air-backed operations are continuing in the region after several
special operation units were deployed to the scene of the clash.

The PKK, which is fighting for autonomy in Turkey’s mainly Kurdish
Southeast, was founded on Marxist ideology. Turkey has been conducting
airstrikes on PKK camps in Iraq’s northern mountains and inside of
Turkey since August of last year, following an increase in attacks
on Turkish troops and civilians by the PKK.

The conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives. The group is
labeled a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United
States, which has supplied Predator drones to assist Turkey.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
