Iran closes its embassy in Azerbaijan

16:45 . 06/07

No new Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan is expected to be appointed
after the present ambassador Mohammad Baqer Bahrami’s mission ends and
he leaves, as the embassy closes for an indefinite time period,
news.am informs citing Azerbaijani sources.

According to the source, the Iranian embassy can close temporarily.
The consulate will carry out the embassy’s mission.

Earlier, the present head of the dimplomatic mission was recalled to
Tehran and returned to Baku just a week ago. Offensive words in
address of the Iranian spiritual leader during a protest in front of
the embassy was said to be the reason of recalling the ambassador.

A day after returning to Baku information was circulated that the
ambassador would leave Baku in near future because the term of his
mission was expiring.

Recently, the relations between the sides have become tense.
Azerbaijani TV channels are actively involved in anti-Iranian
propaganda.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
