At today’s parliament session, HAK MP Aram Manoukyan took the floor
and said it had taken Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan one minute
during his presentation yesterday of the government’s five year
strategy for him to blurt out three inaccuracies.

Manoukyan minced no words when presenting a number of demographic
statistics on emigration and legislative initiatives that called into
question certain pronouncements made by PM Sargsyan.

His speech seemed to touch a raw nerve with MPs from the ruling
majority and they tried to interrupt Manoukyan with catcalls and
other outbursts.

National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan called for order.

Abrahamyan and Manoukyan then got into a shouting match when the latter
asked for a few minutes more time given that he had been interrupted.

“You don’t make the rules here, I do,” replied Abrahamyan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
