Abdullah Gul may become NATO’s next secretary general

President of Turkey Abdullah Gul may be elected NATO’s next Secretary
General after the expiration of the term of office of Anders Fogh
Rasmussen, tert.am writes.

According to Turkish Milliyet, NATO has proposed appointment of a
Turkish representative as NATO secretary general during the coming ten
years.

Turkey has become NATO’s member since 1952 and this year is marking
the 60th anniversary of membership.

The office term of the current Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen
ends in 2013, though he is said to stay in the office till 2014. News
about the nomination of Abdullah Gul to the office is circulating
inside NATO as well. By the way, Gul’s presidency term ends in 2014.
