PanARMENIAN.Net – On May 17, the Mayor of Dilijan, Armenia, Armen
Santrosyan and the Mayor of Roman, Romania, Dan Laurenţiu Leoreanu
signed a cooperation deal, announcing Dilijan and Roman twin cities.

Armenian Ambassador to Romania Hamlet Gasparyan also attended the
signing ceremony.

As the parties noted following the ceremony, the agreement signals
a new start in the friendship and cooperation of the two nations,
after a 1000-year presence of Armenians in Romania.

Roman is a mid-sized city, having the title of municipality, located
in the central part of Moldavia, a traditional region of Romania. It is
located 46 km east of Piatra Neamţ, in Neamţ County at the confluence
of the Siret and Moldova rivers. In 1609, an Armenian church and an
adjacent school were built in the city. The city currently has an
Armenian community, mainly composed of intellectual elite.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
