The Republic party has withdrawn from the opposition Armenian National
Congress (ANC). The party left the congress on May 18 at a meeting
of the party’s political council, which was attended by members of
the political council and heads of territorial bodies.

The decision to withdraw from the ANC was adopted unanimously,
news.am reports.

As previously reported, the leader of the Republic party, Aram
Sarkisian, announced that he had refused his parliamentary seat. He
explained his decision was down to long-term controversies with
the leadership of the ANC. Already during the electoral campaign he
claimed that he was not going to accept a seat.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
