HERITAGE: ARMENIA AND ITS CITIZENS ARE IN GRAVE SYSTEM CRISIS

Vote 2012 | 15.05.12 | 13:38

The Opposition Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian’s press
conference on post-election Armenia, scheduled for Tuesday was
cancelled, instead Hovannisian, has issued a statement, saying that
after the May 6 parliamentary elections once again the people of
Armenia have received a de facto and not a de jure parliament.

“Unless we together and immediately act to return to them the power
and protection they are due, the Republic is condemned to greet the
next in a long line of de facto presidents as well. We deserve–and
shall have–better. We deserve–and must achieve–de jure leadership
both in parliament and at the presidency,” the statement reads.

Hovannisian says that in its long-standing tradition of humble public
service, the Heritage Party will continue to serve the citizen-nation
and its interests both in the current circumstances of de facto shame
and in a near future of de jure dignity.

“We shall do so in all available arenas, through all possible avenues,
and against all probable odds. We thank those of our fellow citizens
who cast their votes for Heritage–whether or not they were among
the few that were officially registered in our favor–because they
were born of a free will, a clear conscience, and a brave belonging
to our Homeland and its calling,” Hovannisian’s statement reads.

According to the statement, the Heritage Party’s congress is scheduled
for June 2, after it Hovannisian will provide answers to all questions
of the public and mass media.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
