OVER 600 INTERNATIONAL, 30,000 LOCAL OBSERVERS MONITOR ARMENIAN ELECTION

ITAR-TASS
YEREVAN May 6

More than 600 international and 30,000 local observers are monitoring
the Armenian parliamentary election, the Armenian Central Elections
Commission told Itar-Tass.

“We have no claims to this election,” CIS election monitoring mission
head, CIS Executive Committee First Deputy Chairman Vladimir Garkun
said. He lauded the work of district elections commission and the
election campaign as a whole.

“The election is calm and well governed. We have not registered any
flagrant violations as yet,” the ICES monitoring mission chief said.

In his words, there were more election observers than voters at
certain polling stations.

“Video cameras at polling stations are another plus of the
parliamentary election,” he said. The delegation unites 20 independent
experts from eight EU member countries, the United States and Israel.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
