`They Have Existed for Nothing for 100 Years’ (Video)

Paruyr Hayrikyan, the leader of the National Self-Determination Union
(NSDU), said about the ARF that `they have existed for nothing for 100
years.’ Paruyr Hayrikyan told in detail why he was compelled to say so
during a conversation with today, `Vahan Hovhannisyan
said that the NSDU didn’t exist. And I said that he was living in the
era of the NSDU. How come a man living in the era of the NSDU, a
representative of a party that has constantly experienced failures
says that the NSDU doesn’t exist? In response to that, instead of
saying, `Dear Vahan, my dear brother, I am sorry for you, I love you
very much, I apologize to my life, my destiny that you were compelled
to say such an irrational thing,’ instead of that I said, `You were
established at the time, in order to establish autonomy in Armenia,
but you ended up with a genocide, you didn’t manage to maintain the
independent Armenia, then when we rose up for the fight for
independence, you were against independence. So you have existed for
nothing for 100 years.’ I just said that, but I am not proud of what I
said.’ According to Hayrikyan, the ARF responded to his words in the
following way, `Don’t mess with Hayrikyan, because he gives very sharp
answers.’

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
