ARMENIAN CANNERIES READY TO BUY AROUND 205,500 METRIC TONS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES THIS YEAR

YEREVAN, March 28. /ARKA/. Armenian canneries will buy around 205,500
metric tons of fruits and vegetables this year, a deputy agriculture
minister Robert Makaryan told a news conference today. He said the
processing companies will buy, as a matter of fact, by 21,500 tons
more than in 2011, when they procured a total of 194,000 tons.

According to him, another 61,000 tons of vegetables, including 50,000
tons of tomatoes as well as 25,500 tons of fruits, including 10,000
tons of apricot, 3,500 tons of peach and 4,300 tons of apple will be
bought by households.

The deputy minister said fruit and vegetable exporting companies are
likely to buy 30,700 tons of fruit and vegetable, including 16,000
tons of apricots, 11,500 tons of grapes, 1,500 tons of peach and
4,000 tons of vegetables.

“Our regional centers set up to support farmers will provide them
with information about how to plan effectively their work so that to
avoid problems with sale of their products,” he said.
