YEREVAN, MARCH 23, ARMENPRESS. “”Switzerland is ready to resume
mediation mission in the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process,””
Swiss Federal Councilor, Minister of Economy Johann Schneider -Ammann
said in the interview with RTS radio. He is in Turkey on a working
visit to initiate the boost of Turkish-Swiss economic relationship.

“”Turkish history thwarts us. At the beginning of the 20th century
Turkey has committed genocide against Armenians. I think that Turkey
should pull the strings to work in this direction”” Schneider stated.

Asked whether his Turkish counterparts got furious when using
“”Genocide”” word, Schneider replied there was no need no get
angry.”” Those political problems impede our businessmen as well;
so Turkey has to solve them.

Turkish-Swiss relations have become a bit tense since 2003 when
Switzerland Federal Council recognized the Armenian Genocide. In
2009 Switzerland came forth with mediation mission to regulate
Armenian-Turkish relations, as a result of which Armenian-Turkish
two protocols were signed in Zurich.

Turkey and Armenia, however, have not ratified the protocols because of
“unacceptable preconditions”” forwarded by Turkey.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
