‘Today South Caucasus region is like a powder keg’

If no progress will be in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict, there is no doubt that unpleasant events will happen.
The statement came from head of the Caucasus Strategic Researches
Center, political scientist Hasan Ogtay from Ankara, Gun.Az reports.

‘Today the South Caucasus region is like a powder keg and one spark is
enough to turn the region into a fire of warfare. Protraction of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and non-constructive position of the
Armenian government, in particular, aggravates the situation even
more’, Ogtay noted.

The political scientist added that the French Parliament’s certain
decision may affect the settlement of the conflict.

‘Since, this decision can be nothing but a political and moral support
to Armenia. We should openly say that this decision aggravates the
settlement of the already deteriorating Nagorno-Karabakh conflict’.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
