Businessman launches fund to combat France’s genocide bill

2 4 January 2012 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM WITH AP,

A wealthy French businessman has launched a 1 million euro fund to pay
the fine of anyone convicted in France for denying that the killing of
Armenians by Turks almost a century ago was genocide.

Rachid Nekkaz, who previously offered to pay the fines of Muslim women
penalized for wearing a full-face veil, claims that the real target of
the French bill is Islam, since Turkey is a Muslim country.

The French Parliament has not yet made it a crime to deny that the
1915 killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks constituted genocide. The
bill passed in the lower house on Dec. 22, prompting an angry Turkey
to recall its ambassador and suspend contacts and military
cooperation.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
