US Vice President wishes that Armenian-Turkish protocols be ratified quickly

December 03, 2011 | 12:29

During his meetings in Turkey with the country’s president and
parliament speaker, US Vice President Joe Biden also reflected on the
matter of the regulation of Armenian-Turkish relations.

Biden expressed his contentment that the Armenian-Turkish protocols
have returned to the Turkish parliament. He noted that he wished for
these protocols to be ratified in the coming months, CNN Turk news
agency reported.

To note, prior to US Vice President’s visit to Turkey, the Turkish
press was noting that the matter of the regulation of Armenian-Turkish
relations was on the visit’s agenda, too.

In September, the government of Turkey had decided to restore 166
international agreements – including the Armenian-Turkish protocols
which, along with other bills, were declared null and void in late
August – of the 171 agreements that were left from the previous
legislative period.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
