Armenian track and field athletes will compete for Summer Olympics

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s long-jumpers Vardan Pahlevanyan and Arsen
Sargsyan, archer Melik Janoyan, and young triple-jumper Levon
Aghasaryan are competing successfully to qualify for the 2012 London
Olympics, Armenian Athletics Federation General Secretary Narine
Shahbazyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
`Specifically, Pahlevanyan won at the 10th International Robert
Emmiyan Tournament and Aghasaryan became sixth at the World Junior
Championships. Melik Janoyan was the best at the 5th Pan-Armenian
Games. Runners Ashot Hayrapetyan (800 m) and Amalya Sharoyan (400 m
hurdles) were outstanding with their good results at the World
Championship, and they broke national records,’ Shahbazyan noted.
She also informed that, to qualify for the London Olympics, Armenia’s
track and field athletes must meet with a normative requirement in a
tournament included in the agenda of the sport’s international
federation.
