President Serzh Sargsyan received yesterday the Special Representative
of the European Union (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis
in Georgia Philippe Lefort.

The parties discussed issues pertinent to Armenia’s cooperation with
the European Union and settlement of the regional conflicts.

In the course of the meeting with RA Foreign Minister Edward
Nalbandian, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to
the cooperation between Armenia and the European Union. In particular
they touched upon the visit of Catherine Ashton, the Vice-President
of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign
Affairs and Security Policy paid to Armenia and the results of the
Cooperation Council’s session held last week in Brussels.

Edward Nalbandian and Philippe Lefort had a thorough talk on the
settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

Issues concerning the reinforcement of confidence between the
conflicting sides were on the agenda of the talk as well. In this
regard, Minister Nalbandian paid the EU Special Representative’s
attention to the state level anti-Armenian and racial discrimination
propaganda carried out by Azerbaijan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
