FRENCH PRESIDENT HAS TO CLARIFY FM’S STATEMENT ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

PARIS. – French FM Alain Juppe’s statement in Turkey is either result
of unawareness or more seriousely, he expresses the viewpoint of
France, head of ARF Armenian Judgment and political issues of European
office Hilda Tchoboian told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“The Minister had to know that establishment of Armenian-Turkish
commission on 1915 events is not actual. Though his statement is caused
by ups and downs of French politics,” Tchoboian stated. “It does
not mean that such a behavior is forgivable. France has officially
recognized the Armenian genocide. Backward in the issue and the
offer to establish a commission of historians is not proper for the
democratic France.”
In response to the report whether it is possible that French President
Nikolas Sarkozy tries to make a contrary statement, she said that
Sarkozy has to save the situation if he wants French-Armenians to
vote for him.
Armenian News-NEWS.am earlier reported that French FM has called the
issue of the Genocide of 1915 a “challenge” on November 18 in Ankara,
Turkey. He expressed readiness of his state to organize and host
Armenian-Turkish discussions on the subject.
