TURKEY SLAMS REUTERS FOR ARMENIAN GENOCIDE REMARKS?

In its report on the Saturday earthquake in southeastern Turkey,
Reuters presented a brief overview of Van’s history, speaking about
its Armenian origins.

It referred, among other things, to the Turkey-perpetrated Armenian
massacres and deportations in the World War One period, a move that
received the Turkish authorities’ strong criticism.

According to the Turkish Milliyet, Ankara made a tough response to
the agency, urging it to re-edit the report on the Van earthquake.

“If, instead of an earthquake, Van had seen political developments,
we would have realized why the Reuters’ editors choose that method
of news reporting. But what happened in Van is a natural disaster. So
what does Reuters’ additional information have to do with the Kurdish
population and the Armenian massacres?” said the paper.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
