MOSCOW. – Russia has to take certain measures, let even official,
on Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, director of research programs in
Russia and CIS German Society for Foreign Policy Alexander Rar told
Armenian News-NEWS.am and added that otherwise it will be left behind
other interested powers.

According to Rar, Russia will not thoroughly change its political
approach on Karabakh conflict settlement after current PM Vladimir
Putin becomes President of Russia.

“Caucasus faces dual situation. Russia is Armenia’s strategic partner
and simultaneously has close relations with Azerbaijan. West will
regularly confirm that the conflict should be settled, while Russia
benefits from keeping the situation unsettled,” Rar said and added
that the tactic may bring Russia’s defeat if abusing it.

The expert believes that general indecisiveness hinders Russia to
run more precise and clear politics. Moreover, no abrupt changes are
expected with Putin’s becoming President of Russia.
