ARMENIAN TEXTILE PRODUCTS WORTH AMD 1.6 BILLION EXPORTED IN JAN-AUG 2011

YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. Armenia exported textile products worth
AMD 1.6 billion in Jan-Aug 2011 – 33.9% growth since the beginning
of the year, Hayk Mirzoyan, chief of Armenian economy ministry’s
industrial policy department, said on Friday.

He told journalists that the textile industry gained momentum in recent
months – its output grew 52.7% over the first months of this year to
AMD 4.5 billion, of which AMD 3 billion is production of clothes alone.

Sales grew 62%, he said.

Mirzoyan said that the textile industry’s output and exports grew
thanks to the government’s policy. In particular, the government has
changed the customs regime for import of equipment, and tax preferences
are planned.

He also said that some European companies entered the Armenian market,
and they want to work here on beneficial conditions and use skilled
workers.

Mirzoyan stressed that Armenian companies mostly use customers’
raw materials and export the major part of their output, though some
companies sell up to 50% of their output at domestic market.

He pointed out Italy, Germany and other European countries as well
as Canada and CIS countries, especially Russia, as main importers of
Armenia’s textile products.

Among textile industry’s problems, he singled out transportation
problems, import of raw materials and establishing production of
textiles on the spot.

“We are trying to find solutions to these problems,” he said. “The
ministry, responding to some companies’ proposals, started considering
ways to establish a commercial organization abroad for boosting and
selling Armenian textile products,”

Armenia has more than 100 light industry enterprises. ($1 = AMD
